Fall Essentials Sew Along: My Plan

Welcome to the first Fall Essentials Sew-Along! Fall is a beautiful season in Southern Ontario, followed quickly by winter, and both are ideal for staying indoors and making cozy togs! Many of my fall items will see me through both fall and winter, so my list is longer than usual.

Another reason my list is longer that previous sew-alongs is that I have challenged myself to purchase no clothing for an entire year. Items that I would have normally thrifted now need to be made.

I plan to be sewing and knitting on these projects until January 31, 2012, as I want to enjoy the process and work at a relaxed pace. Almost every item will be made from stash fabric and patterns. In addition to my favourite quilting cotton, I will be using flannel, corduroy, denim, twill, wool, and heavy weight jersey. I am planning on making the following:

Fashionable Foundations for Frosty Weather
Eva Dress 3322
Simplicity 3688, Views B & C

Chic Chemises for Cool Climates
Colette Patterns' Jasmine
Butterick 7762, View E
Lisette 2245 tunic
Simplicity 1048, View 3

Fabulous Frocks
Colette Patterns' Macaron
Colette Patterns' Peony
Plaid Sorbetto dress
Simplicity 3673, View B

Those Cozy Nights
Simplicity 3935

Baby It's Cold Outside
Blush Vest
Simply Soft Cowl

I am tying this sew-along in with Colette Patterns' Fall Palette Challenge. I know I won't get everything done within the 8 week time frame, but I'm going to enjoy it!

Thanks for hosting again! I didn't do very well with my plan for the Summer version but I've got a head-start on Fall so I decided to join. I love that sheath dress you've chosen :)

A nice post! I too am making S3673. Best of luck with the no clothes shopping!

I am with your girl as I too plan on sewing right into and through winter. Would love to start sewing for summer in say...February sounds perfect:)

Have always liked that topper coat, so look forward to seeing it made up, and the Jasmine blouse is very much like one I have on my Pinterest board....will use it as inspiration only though as I have sworn to self draft this year.

Thanks for organizing and promoting such a fun sew along

Simplicity 3983 makes up into a great skirt, just beware that it has absurdly shallow pockets. So shallow that even your lipstick may fall out when you sit.

Your plan looks great!

I'll be joining you! I figured if I'm doing the Fall Palette Challenge already, the Essentials Sew Along goes hand in hand. Also I read the tag-line as "Craft Yourself Crazy" and it made me laugh really hard.

You picked a lot of things I myself would like to sew! I can't wait to see the EvaDress pants and the jumper. I'm also curious about the Lisette trousers, they look like a strange design to me, so I am curious to see them on a real, live person.

OH! why must canada be so BIG?!

i know why. because it rocks. so close and yet so far. i'm waving to you from my wee balcony in banff :)

today i wondered why i don't join up in these palette challenges... and then i realized it's because i am a color schizophrenic and have serious issue choosing a palette. like, sweat inducing issues.

This is my first clothing sew along. I like your pattern choices. I posted my patterns on my blog, but am still going thru my fabric stash.

Thanks for hosting this Sarah, I love the topper coat in your plans, all of it is just lovely though! I wanted to tell you that I have made a mood board for the first time EVER as a result of deciding to join you. I have picked colours and the sort of things I want to make. I need to refine my ideas down but I am having such fun thinking about it. Also I am pleased to know that you plan to take this through to February, that is reassuring. Happy sewing and happy planning everyone, Cx
