Sewing scallops can be tricky. I know this from personal experience when I was sewing my Poppy Dress; a wonderful project ruined by poor sewing. Of course, lovely Sarai details the process beautifully in the book as well as on the Coletterie, changing up the Sorbetto hem from plain to scallops, as an example.
I did, however, want to be sure that should you need more resources they are available at your fingertips!
Tilly, of Tilly and the Buttons, made a beautiful Betty Draper-inspired suit and posted a wonderful tutorial on making perfectly curved scallops. Click here to see how she does it. Don't worry if you don't have a bamboo point turner (I don't) as you can easily use a chopstick, a knitting needle, or a butter knife, as Tilly suggests.
For those of you who like to see techniques in action, I found this terrific video that shows you how to trim your scallops to get that wonderfully rounded edge.
Enjoy and happy sewing!

very helpful, thankyou.
Thanks this is very helpful! Can I ask what is probably a stupid question lol but I need some scissors that are small and sharp for trimming in seam allowances etc because with my big ones I am just going to cut right through my stitches! What type would you recommend? Embroidery scissors?
I love that you are posting videos for the techniques! For someone like me that needs to SEE everything in action, it's very helpful!
Thanks for the links (especially the video - I'm such a visual learner!
I have another one to add - the different coloured topstitching makes these scallops look even scallopy-er somehow!.
Buzzy Bee's World
I can't wait to try a few practice scallops!
I wish I had found this before I sewed my scallops. I finally got it right on the THIRD try!
Oh thanks for linking to me!
Manda - I know what you mean, it's hard to avoid snipping through stitches on tricky spots like scallops when you're wielding huge fabric shears! If you use delicate embroidery scissors you'd have to be prepared that they will become blunt from cutting through fabric. Perhaps you could get some cheapo nail scissors that you don't mind using for the odd bit of fabric snipping?
Had I known y'all were doing this, I totally would have waited to post my Meringue. I'll join for a few of the remaining four :)
