WIP: Colette Peony

I started working on my Peony last weekend. I had planned to use this fabric to make a Macaron with a knit yoke, but when Mr. Friday saw it he liked it as a Peony instead. As always, his taste is spot on!

The fabric is a cotton-poly blend that is beautifully soft and warm, perfect for a winter dress. It also has a wonderful drape, which is one of the reasons I chose to cut it on the bias. The other is that I am feeling lazy and didn't want to match plaids! The dress is coming together well, and my only concern is the front darts - I may have to tweak them a bit more.

Elbow-length sleeves are my favourite, so I shortened the sleeve piece provided and used my Macaron sleeve pattern to add a curved detail. I drafted sleeve facings to ensure a smooth and finished edge.

As with my knitting, I always seem to have a few projects on the cutting table at once! This month it's the Peony, my Meringue muslin, and Simplicity 5752.

What are you working on?

*Please forgive my poor quality photos. Evil Lair (aka my sewing room) does not have natural light.

Your Peony is going to be so lovely! I adore the plaid you've chosen - very you :) Like you, I've got several projects on my table, and they are all Colette patterns! This may be the year of the Colette pattern for me - who knows?

I'm working on a circle skirt and knitting a sweater and a snood although the snood is being difficult.

That's going to be a lovely Peony! How can you say no to bias plaid? 3/4 sleeves are def my fav, otherwise I'm just rolling/pushing them up out of the way. I'm finally working on hub's Negroni, an upcycle and most likely a Taffy.

Other than the skirt for the sew along I am still finishing my daughters Christmas Dress (McCalls's M6018 view A and D. I know I'm late but I figure her little sister can where it next year. I'm also trying to knit some mittens for the kids because they are constantly forgetting them somewhere. I figure if a make them all in the same color it won't matter if they forget one at school because I will always have a backup to match.

Pretty! I wish I could find some nice, warmer-weight plaid around here... Then again, we're having an unusually mild winter for now...

Right now, I have a plaid Rooibos on my cutting table, a knit longsleeve and half an Ottobre dress cut out and I'm dreaming of a long-sleeved jersey dress from my new polka-dot fabric. I'm trying to put that one off, though, since it's a light weight rayon jersey, definitely not made for a winter dress... I'm wondering if wool bouclé would make a good Meringue, though. Thoughts?
