Spring and Summer 2012 Sewing Plans

I so enjoyed reading Scruffy Badger's great post on her Jubilee-inspired wardrobe that I wanted to take the time to write down my own sewing wish list for the upcoming seasons.

I have finally decided to embrace my love of handmade clothing and if my closet explodes, so be it. After all, I use Solanah's excellent closet rotation plan, so I should come through relatively unscathed.

I am having a glorious love affair with blues, meaning sapphire, cornflower, periwinkle and turquoise are taking centre stage.  Paired with shades of gold, lemon, and hot pink, I am creating my own sunshine during this cold, wet, and somewhat snowy (oh, yes!) Spring we're having.

THE PLAN

Blue Floral Pendrell blouse
Butterick 4452 capris
Butterick 5763 wrap skirt
Colette Crepe
Colette Macaron
Colette Negroni for Mr. Friday
Colette Oolong
Drawstring capris from Simple Modern Sewing
Lady Mary's Walking Skirt
Lady Mary's Flower Show Dress
Mail Order 9487
Marian Martin 9281
New Look 6808
Pyjamas for Karen's PJ Party
Sewaholic Renfrew
Victory Patterns Chloe

No doubt that several of these items will not get made, but I've decided to just 'go where the energy is' and sew for the sheer fun of it and whatever I finish is just fine.  I've also been sure to tie in my plans with the following sew-alongs:
I have actually done quite well with my Franken Pattern Pledge and am enjoying being a mad sewing scientist!  Everything I make this year must mix-and-match; there will be no closet orphans in 2012!

MY PROGRESS

I have almost finished my version of Lady's Mary's Flower Show dress, with the exception of the zipper and hem.  I am really pleased with the direction it has taken and am looking forward to sharing it with you.

I also need to photograph my Linda tunic and Larita trousers and a really fun version of Simplicity 3673, all of which have been finished since March.  Ooh, I also have Lady Mary's Walking skirt done, too.  I am not sure if I will make the Armistice Blouse or go with a more modern Simplicity 2601.

This month, I've made 4 Renfrews - as well as a dress version - and a rayon challis Pendrell.  All of these are waiting on the photography skills of my Mr. Friday. Much like Debi's David, he is always happy to pitch in.

* * * * *

What are you planning on sewing for the upcoming seasons?  What sew-alongs / challenges are you participating in?

I have to say, after reading so many blog posts about wanting to simplify one's wardrobe and pare the amount of items in the closet down, it's really refreshing to see a post about embracing the inevitable closet explosion that comes with handmade goodness!

Looks like you've got a great plan going! I'm going to be attempting to do MMM and the Palette Challenge myself....though whether I actually get anything sewn remains to be seen, as work's suddenly gone insane and I haven't had a lot of free time.

ooooh fantastic ideas for your spring wardrobe!! i love the various shades of blue idea, it sounds very summery in the best possible way. my plan for spring/summer is here, it's got lots of pink and blue for warm weather. as for challenges i'm doing the pj party, me-made may and handmade wardrobe spring '12. now we just have to execute and finish all of our fabulous ideas!

Ooh, I love a list, and the happiness of ticking things off it! Your plans look great, and your colour palette is lovely.

Wow! That is one loooong list, Sarah! I am loving this "going where the energy is" spirit, and once I´ve finished off some shirts for my man, (he´s going to Arizona, and is in desperate need of some short sleeved shirts) I´m free to do whatever I´d like.

Happy sewing! :-)

Holy crapdoodle, honey, that is a list to warm my heart!! I love lists.... love em.... and in fact my sewing list WAS that long until I did the dream-killing task of doing the math: as slowly as I sew and at my baby-steps skill level, a project list of almost 20 items for the summer was ridiculously overambitious! LOL!!

But now I can live vicariously through you!! And know that someday, maybe even i can sew fast enough to fulfill my dreams of crossing off as long a list as I please :D

Your list is AMAZING! I love everything you have lined up! I feel you on not taking photographs for any of your cinematic goodies - I have three pieces done but the weather has been so awful that I cannot get outside to get pictures taken! I'm so excited to see your Lady Mary pieces - I am squealing so loudly you might be able to hear me where you are!

I like what you said here: "'go where the energy is' and sew for the sheer fun of it and whatever I finish is just fine." That's pretty much my attitude toward sewing this season. I have a few things in mind that I want to make, but I'm not putting any pressure on myself to make a certain number of garments or adhere to any certain deadlines. Trying to get back to a mental state where sewing is fun and relaxing, and not an obligation.

It all looks lovely! I can't wait to see the blues, I am loving them this spring also - trying to overcome my natural tendency to black. :-)

You are sticking with your plans this year well babes! Congrats on getting so far with That's Sew Cinematic as well! I've picked some vintage patterns, but nothing too far advanced! Better get cracking! xoxo
