| Marie, Winnie, and Catherine clearly in cahoots with each other! (Photo nicked from Winnie's blog) |
It's all Winnie's fault. I mean look at that expression on her face! She's egging me on, I tell you. Catherine and Marie are accessories to this debacle, so don't let their innocent faces fool you! There eyes were boring holes into me and they MADE ME go and buy fabric!
It all started when I was innocently drinking my tea (Darjeeling, in case you were interested) and catching up on my blog reader, when I came across Winnie's fantastic Birmingham Rag Market haul. Made demented by her fantastic fibre acquisitions, I grabbed up my shopping bags and high-tailed it to Ottawa Street; the place to buy fabric in my town. Want to see what I bought?
First up is a rather utilitarian purchase of 5 metres of white broadcloth, which is great for lining my summer dresses and at $2 / metre is was a steal! The second fabric is the most expensive I bought at $7 / metre. It's an embroidered cotton voile and I thought that the 1.5 metres I bought would make a lovely lacey Sorbetto, sans pleat.
Next up is some yummy turquoise twill (2 metres) earmarked for another wrap skirt. The gorgeous rose print (3 metres) is by Sandi Henderson from her Meadowsweet 2 collection. It's utterly fantastic and will be used to sew the very first project from Erin's, Rochelle's, and my New Top Secret Sew-Along, which we are unveiling in June.
The sheer fun factor purchase is this amazing stripey knit. It's 60" wide and I picked up 1.5 metres. I'm hoping to get a short-sleeve Renfrew for me and a knit dress for Miss Friday out of this. I have already made 4 Renfews, plus a dress version, and I think it is the greatest knit shirt pattern EVER.
These last purchases were directly influenced by Ali's red mini wardrobe. I love red and realized that it needs to take a more prominent place in my wardrobe. Enter the following:
1. 2 metres of red linen for a pair of drawstring capris
2. 1.4 metres of cherry print cotton for another Sorbetto
3. 1.6 metres of rose print cotton for a sleeveless Jasmine
4. 3 metres of red/pink rose print rayon challis for a dress, likely an Oolong.
The rayon challis was a great bargain, as they were selling it at buy one metre get two free! As I have the blue colourway, I simply could not resist the red/pink one.
Total yardage purchased = 21 metres. (I know, I mix up my metres/yards. This is what happen when you grow up when Canada went from Imperial to Metric. Ugh.) I have managed to sew though more than 1/3 of my stash this year with plans to continue demolishing it. As I have been so diligent, I don't feel too badly about my completely indulgent haul. Besides, I was in the throes of fibre fever, which is all Winnie's fault.

Have you purchased any new fabric lately? Are you sewing through your stash like I am? If you are, don't forget to sew-along with Katie's Stash Busting/UFO project!

What a great selection of fabrics! I am limited with fabric shops in my town, they are all quite expensive and the selection always seems aimed at elderly people! I feel inspired to go on a fabric buying holiday soon! I look forward to seeing your creations soon.
So many pretty things! I live in the supposed holy grail city of fabric shopping (NYC) but I think I want to go shopping in your city!
I keep getting lured in by the Fabricland Buy 1, get 2 free sales too! I took my sister fabric shopping last weekend (She's a knitter, not a sewer, but we're going to make a few Cambies together this summer.) She ended up with about 12m of fabric plus two bedsheets for muslining! For once, i bought less fabric than someone else! :)
What a wonderful haul! I have been on yarn and fabric buying restriction for about two months as I try to stash bust but the lovely florals you got make me want to run to the fabric store and find some of my own!
Great fabric choices! I made the goal NOT to purchase any fabric (yarn or patterns) during 2012 and just use up my stash. I better not hang out with Winnie....
Fab haul.
I'm UFO and stash busting with Katie but still planning a fabric buying trip, next month I hope.
Thank you so much for all of your lovely comments :) It's great to see everyone busting their stashes :)
This really made me laugh!!!
Your fabric haul looks super ...I would really love the embroidered voile. If you had half the fun we had then you would have had a fantastic day!x
Fun fabrics! I love all of them, particularly the turquoise twill and the prints inspired by Ali's red wardrobe! So cute! I'm interested in your new sewalong! Can't wait to hear more about it!
Haha, I love this post and thanks for the guilty mention! I too blame Winnie for my total lack of self-control on the day...but so worth it! I love your fabrics so much - the stripey knit is awesome as are the florals...swoon!
Ooooh that's going to make a lovely top secret dress!!! ;)
LOL!!! i've been on a huge fabric buying spree over the past 2 months and hopefully, i've now gotten it in check?! i've bought denim, chambray, knits, silk, cotton/silk blends and most recently wool knits, sweatshirt knits and a striped jersey. it seems if it's nautical or chambray/denim or preppy striped, i've been moved to buy it. the only good thing is that i found more hiding places for stash i've had for months and don't want to sew, and i've had motivation to sew what i've been buying. also it's soooo much cheaper than buying the clothes i'm seeing in my head!
ohhh and i have no idea how you routinely resist buy 1, get 2 free sales!!!
Yum yum yum. I shall live vicariously through you! I love fabric and always want more... but I have enough for now :)
That fabric will be perfect for that secret project!!! ;)
you DID have a fabriclicious day, doesn't it feel like christmas?!
Your fabric choices are all stunning, and those pink florals just made my heart beat faster! What lovely finds!
