At the end of April 2012, Chedoke Elementary School experienced a devastating fire that knocked out their science labs and shut down an entire wing of the school. Thankfully, no one was hurt as the fire occurred well after school hours; however, due to extensive smoke and water damage, an enormous portion of the school library was lost.
Since then, parents, teachers, and other community members have rallied together to begin replacing the library's inventory. Despite heroic efforts, there are still hundreds of books that need to be replaced in time for the start of the 2012-2013 school year in September.
The school teaches students ages 4 through 13 and books appropriate for these age groups are being diligently sought. Given the very limited budgets allotted to school libraries, donations are the key. As an avid reader and lover/collector of books, I am putting this out there in the hopes that you may want to donate a book or more to this school. No child should be without a fully stocked library at school!

Do you know any specific books that are needed? I would like to help and would like to send some things that they really need.

All books are needed. Sending books you loved as a child is always a great idea. Anything that is appropriate for 4 - 13 year olds would be great.

Thank you for sharing this information. I live in Detroit, but I have several friends who live in Hamilton. We happened to be meeting up in Columbus this past weekend for a dance symposium, so I was able to pass along several books for them to deliver for me.
My favorite part of my elementary school was the library, so I am more than happy to make sure all libraries have enough books!
