It's my favourite week for Sew Colette 2.0: Guest Blogger Week! I just love hearing from other creative folks, especially when they give us an inside peek at their own crafty universes.
I am just delighted to welcome back Sarai Mitnick, the lovely lady behind Colette Patterns, as our special guest today. As many of you know, running your own business is demanding, to say the least, and I always feel so honored when Sarai takes the time to write guest posts for the sew along. Always interesting and informative, Sarai's 'insider advice' on sewing and designing is always welcome. The fact that she makes time in her undoubtedly busy schedule to participate is a hallmark of the personal touch she brings to all aspects of Colette Patterns.
Without further ado, allow me to present Sarai's terrific post on 12 ways to vary Macaron.

One of my favorite things about the Macaron pattern is seeing how sewists change it up. For some reason, this pattern just seems to beg for style variations, and there are a lot of creative examples to choose from in the Colette Patterns Flickr Group. I thought I'd share a few of these ideas with you. Maybe these ladies' lovely creations will spark your own imagination!
Anna made this gorgeous and fancy version in black sateen with a lacy, sheer yoke. So elegant.
Antoinette looks awesome in this sleeveless blue-on-blue variation piped with white. Adorable.
Alana made a Christmas-ready version, lengthening the sleeves and adding her own cute cuff detail.
Check out this amazing, lively version with dots and floral from The Sew Convert. The coordinating colors and different scale of the patterns make this work so beautifully.
Here is another take on the lace yoke from Handmade by Freya. She underlined the yoke with a silk organza and did the body in wool, perfect for Winter.
It's a Tetris dress! This one is from Julia of Thread Carefully, and she looks absolutely adorable in it. It looks like she gathered the skirt all the way around instead of using pleats, which makes the border print easy to work with.
Erika Jeane chopped this Macaron into a top, something I'm fond of doing as well.
Andrea looks lovely in her long sleeved version. She also did the midriff in the main fabric rather than a contrasting one, another easy way to switch things up.
Sara changed up her skirt into a balloon shape, and also added an orange underskirt. Pretty cute!
I'm a huge fan of keyhole openings, and this one from Lisa looks really elegant on the back yoke.
Eunny made one of my all-time favorite versions. I can't resist black and white gingham, and the way she altered the direction is just spectacular.
Here's some similar work from Lee, showing you how to use plaid. An amazing autumnal dress results. I hope these variations have inspired your own creations! I think I may need to buy a few yards of gingham now.

What great inspiration! Eunny's version is also my all-time favorite. I ran out to get some gingham as soon as I saw hers.
BRILLIANT! I love the gingham and plaid ones and using sheer fabric for the top part looks really nice, too!! It's so nice to see how everyone makes it their own!
Oh wow. Thanks for posting these beautiful Macarons. I'm already in LOVE with the pattern, and this inspires me to make even more. Never thought about all of these fabric and sleeve variations to take me into fall and winter. Amazing creativity, everyone!

All of these versions helped me decide on my formal Macaron version. Just hemming it now and I'll have it online this weekend.
