I love the Macaron pattern! It yields such a pretty and feminine dress that can be customized in a huge variety of ways. For the sew-along, I knew that I wanted to make a winterized version of Macaron, as I wore my green knit one constantly last year.
I love wearing stripey knits, even though I am not so brilliant at matching them up! I picked up both the red and striped jersey knit this summer during a huge 50% off sale at Fabricland, one of my local fabric stores.
As I only recently became a knit convert, I wanted to stick to a pattern I was comfortable with, especially since I was making modifications. I used Sewaholic's Renfrew for the sleeves and neck binding and chose to add a gathered, rather than a pleated skirt. I even used the Renfrew's hem technique to finish off the skirt.
As with every Colette pattern I have sewn, this dress went together like a dream! Having made a version before was definitely helpful as I chose not to make a muslin this time around. Sewing it with knit fabrics certainly sped up the process as I used my serger and did not need to add a zipper. This dress is very comfortable to wear and will definitely keep me warm for our upcoming chilly fall and cold winter. I love the cheery stripes paired with the cherry red knit - definitely a happy dress!
I have really enjoyed this project for Sew Colette 2.0. It has been a privilege to sew along with all of you and see your wonderful garments being posted into the sew-along Flickr group. Well done, everyone!!
